OTHER IMPORTANT FIGURES robert frank douglas. forty-three year old family friend. currently cares for riley while he's on school breaks.
HISTORY WE'RE FOREVER YOUNG , there was once a time where a man loved a woman, and he was loved in return. this was some twenty years ago however. the wedding was traditional, white dress, white roses, white everything. except for his crisp black tux. it was the proudest moment of both of their parents lives. their babies were finally all grown up and had a person to rely on. but perhaps he had been a little naive that day. still, fresh out of high school they were both too young to be doing this. but they had not other choice. it was their parents way or no way at all.
but don't let the fact that jacob evan vaughn was a hundred percent in love fool anyone.
DON'T COME ANY CLOSER , on the exact date of their one year anniversary, a baby boy was blessed into the world of the vaughns. a little baby boy weight 8 lbs exact, and just about a foot long. there were wide grins on both of the parents' faces. this was start of something new for the both of them. a new life, and new world. but what one of them didn't know, was that it was going to be something completely different from what they had expected.
the bright eyed baby boy was brought home a month or so later, but the home life was never a good one. mrs. vaughn had a little plan up her sleeve, and she was definitely a devious little girl.
DON'T TELL ME IT'S OVER , mrs. vaughn was missing the next morning when jacob woke up to the loud screams of a baby. there was a note on the freezer saying goodbye and nothing more. jacob was crushed from it all. and had never really recovered from it. the event was sudden, with no excuse or reason.
jacob wanted to die, but he was going to live for little riley. it wouldn't be fair for him to lose both parents in one day. and he would have never have done that to his son. it was really all he had now since his parents moved elsewhere after the wedding.
with a sigh, jacob silently vowed that he would always stay on the planet and in the area for his son. and that if he ever found his former wife, it would be the day she would regret.
DON'T KISS ME GOODBYE , san fransico probably wasn't the best place to raise a kid on your own. especially to a father who had very few friends. but whenever jacob was working, riley was always looked after. from a few of the people, he learned quite a bit in his first few years of life. not that he remembers it or anything. his father would often come home and be disappointed that he missed his first words, his first steps. but he was trying his hardest to support the little kid. and, goddammit, he was going to give the boy whatever he wanted. most of it was to make up for the absence of his mother, and just to prove to every one that he could do it.
riley was a normal kid growing up. until middle school at least. he had a good amount of popularity, and a timid personality. hyper sometimes, but still an average kid. the transition from elementary school to middle school was a bit hard on the little boy. he was taller, and thinner than most of the kids in his class. he kept to himself a lot of the time. his nose was usually buried in a book, though his dyslexia irritated him too much to read. it was most of a way to keep people away from him. but that didn't help him from still being bullied when in the halls. thankfully, most of the cuts and bruises where hidden by his clothes. he didn't need his father worrying about him.
middle school also brought on other difficulties into riley's life. for instance, puberty. and, well, his first kiss as well. he would never admit it in a million years, but his first kiss was his former best friend. but, just for the record, he kissed riley. not the other way. and, needless to say, it sent him into a major confusion about himself. one that eventually caused him to leave that friend away.
when that friend tried to do anything "coupley" with him at school, the boy would just push him away. soon, that friend turned on him. and then welcome him becoming shoved into a janitor's closet. riley remembers the day perfectly. he had went to go talk to his friend, well former friend, and maybe apologize. but instead, he grabbed him by the arm and did anything but try to be his friend.
riley misses him still, but has learned to just let the boy go.
during high school, he wasn't as awkward looking as in middle school. no, he had some good looks to him. and he lived an average teenage life. sorta. he didn't go to excessive parties, didn't do drugs, didn't do anything like that. but he still managed to get a few girlfriends every now and than.
HERE WE ARE, AM I TAKING THIS TOO HARD , he was seventeen when he watched his father die. the thirty-five year old was in the hospital at the time, from alcohol poisoning. sure, he had his stomach pumped and all of that, but the doctors still wanted to keep him there. something about his liver. riley stayed home from school for a week and stayed by his father's side. at the end of the week, he was having a conversation with his father. an important "life lesson" if you may. jacob was telling riley about his mother, and what had happened. and all his life, he had just thought his mother had died. or just never really put any thought into his head. and as cliche, and movie scene it was, his father's last words to him were about how proud he was of his little son.
two weeks after his father's dead, he was finally forced to go back to school. now, he was living with an old family friend, his father's best friend. he was a fun guy to live with, but riley couldn't get over the death enough to pay too much attention to it. even when he was at school, he didn't talk to anyone. not even the guidance counselors who were "concerned."
he still never talked to anyone about the death. usually he changed the topic of it until the subject is completely gone.
DON'T SAY IT'S EASY , since his father's death, he's made three vows to himself: find his mother and find out what was going through her mind, actually work on trying to figure out his feelings, and to just be a better person. though, stealing mass amounts of alcohol from his new guardian's cabinet doesn't exactly help that.
graduating from high school was almost the turning point for riley. it was when he got his acceptance letter when he learned he really needed to work on himself if he wanted to make anything out of himself. and he's been trying to back away from the foul liquid. and its' almost worked. almost.
the possession of a fake id, and extra money doesn't help with that all that much though. he's working on it though. though with the move to glendale, and the start of school in chicago, he's been becoming just a bit better. if you ignore the many, many nights he's been found at parties and found himself passed out next to some random girl the next morning.
YOUR ALIAS mary jane. YOUR AGE eighteen. ROLE PLAY EXPERIENCE too much. EXAMPLE there's this kid named jaspar ozwell. go look at him.
